Giulia Defant, MFT

Giulia (she/her/they) was born in Italy and moved to the U.S. at the age of 16 to pursue a career in performing arts. Through her experiences, she ultimately integrated her background in the arts with a passion for psychology and other human sciences. Giulia earned a bachelor of arts in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Minnesota Morris. She is currently completing her last year in the M.S. Clinical Psychology program at San Francisco State University, and working as an MFT Trainee with QLS.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Giulia has a special passion for working with this population. She also brings prior clinical experience in the domains of eating disorders, trauma, substance abuse disorders, cultural and immigration issues, as well as dissociation, self-harm, and suicidality. Giulia operates from an intersectional feminist approach and is committed to using a social justice lens to decolonize the therapeutic process and systems in which she participates.

Furthermore, Giulia is a registered yoga teacher, bringing trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness practices to underserved communities as well as survivors of interpersonal violence. This training manifests in her sessions through her somatic approach and in the use of a psychodynamic and relational orientation.

In her free time, Giulia enjoys time in nature with her dogs, caring for her plants, and finding the best places to eat in the Bay Area.
