Jay Klyman

Jay Klyman (they/them) is queer, non-binary and disabled. They’re from Chicago and have been in the Bay for five years. They’re a 2nd year student at CIIS's Community Mental Health Program.

They have a passion for working with clients with histories of substance use and the crossover with mental illness. They have worked with teenagers for the past ten years and are excited to expand to working with other age groups, including family work! They’re passionate about working with trauma. They believe that, especially with trauma, trust is built at the speed of relationships.

Their theoretical orientation they’re integrating now is a mix of relational Psychodynamics and the Humanists. They believe the therapeutic relationship is healing in itself and that everyone is capable of change and people are inherently deserving of care. They’re excited to infuse in their work their experience with DBT skills. They’re interested to learn more about Internal Family Systems work and Somatic Work.

When they’re not working or in school- they’re hiking with my grouchy dog, watching trashy reality television, organizing or writing poetry.
