Sam Wessels

Sam Wessels (he/him) is psychology trainee at Queer LifeSpace this academic year (2021-2022). He is pursuing a PsyD. and is in his 3rd-year at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA. He is integrative, combining aspects of relational, psychodynamic therapy with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

He brings experience working with LGBTQ+ adolescents and adults with issues ranging from depression to anxiety, substance use, sexual issues, and trauma. He is researching how shame impacts mental health and how that is wrapped up with oppression in American society.

Sam comes from a performing and creative arts background. In his spare time, he enjoys reading novels, playing piano, hiking and camping, and training his very cute puppy, Walter.
